Thought Provoking – 01.18.10

I’m having a difficult time beginning this post as there are many things to think about on this Monday.

The things at the forefront of my mind are the devastation in Haiti and Martin Luther King day.  It’s a very bittersweet feeling.  I would like to spend most of my day celebrating the King and all he did for our country.  We have a long way to go, but 2009 and the election of Mr. President Obama certainly shows we’re on the right track.  My hope on a day like today is that anyone living in ignorance would take a few minutes to educate themselves on where our country was once at and how terribly groups of people have been treated in the great USofA.  We’re not perfect people here in America.  We must always strive for improvement.  An enormous thank you to Mr. Martin Luther King.  You have forever changed America.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the folks in Haiti affected by the devastating earthquake.  If you have the means, please consider donating to Doctors Without Borders or Partners in Health.  Haitians may be receiving lots of goods, but they desperately need medical assistance.

Thank you for letting me know about your blog!

Also the organization you mentioned for Haiti support is wonderful. Our book club read his book which really introduced me to Haiti a few years ago. It’s hard to imagine it getting worse almost daily w/ the aftershocks. Thank you for choosing them.
